Ms. Ussia's class playing "Mouse, Mousie." I love it because it highlights our new note "do" very well, but they just love the game! ;-)
Winter in 1st Grade Music Class
Well, the holidays are over and our first program is in the books! All of the kids are back to finishing our study of the new note on our solfa scale, "do." We've been playing a game to help finish that out and will even do some composing using our new note. The kids seem to enjoy whatever we are doing in class (although games are a hands-down favorite!). For Valentine's Day we will put together a performance with the Orff instruments (our first real ensemble). Please check back as it gets closer to the holiday for a video!
First Grade Music Fun!
The kids have started some IMPROVISING in music class. We've talked about creating a piece of music, not just banging on instruments. Some of them have been extra considerate in their creations by paying attention to rhythm, melodic direction and patterns. I really could not be more proud of them. I know it sounds like a simple task, but improvising can be daunting even for an adult (it is for me!) and they really were great!
The fun is only beginning in first grade music! We've done a bit of reviewing so far and have also started learning a new song and game (which is a smash hit!). The first graders will continue to build their skills throughout the year by adding a new note to their solfa scale and adding a new rhythm to all of their rhythm work. Below is a quick video of some rhythm practice with Mrs. McPaul's class!
