So-Mi goes Missing!
The kindergarten students have learned so much about music already, and it is finally time to learn the names of our first two notes, So and Mi. They have sung many songs with these two notes highlighted within them, have played instruments and even sung some solos. It was great to finally be able to learn those note names in our Solfa scale-something we will continue building throughout elementary school. Using these solfa names help the kids to learn to sing in tune more easily. It has been amazing to see how once the kids master these intervals they are even able to do some simple sight-singing (not an easy task!). I am hoping they told you about these notes (or will once they have had music this rotation). This really is an exciting time in their musical learning!
Kindergarten Music Fun!
The kids played the Orff Instruments for the first time recently--what a great day! They were so excited, especially since they could play whatever they wanted! They've also finally finished their study of loud & soft music and will move into FAST & SLOW!
Kindergarten music is all about learning while playing...sometimes that means playing instruments, sometimes that means a game! The best thing about Kindergarten music is watching the kids explore music and discovering new ideas. We do have a lot of fun in here, but we've already begun trying different percussion instruments, tried several movement activities and even learned several new songs!

Winter Time in Music
We have moved beyond just being comfortable in music class very quickly! The kids have learned two notes on our solfa scale, which is truly the foundation for all that is to come throughout elementary school music. Each student has sung a short solo in our Yoo-Hoo game, and they've learned proper posture for singing as well as instrument technique. The kids LOVE playing instruments (which I'm sure isn't a surprise) and I promise we will be doing even more of that as we begin to explore the percussion family in the coming months. It has been a true joy seeing how excited they are about different aspects of music class!
